In this unit students develop an understanding of the physical, social and intellectual development of primary school aged children. Through an understanding of how children learn students are prepared to develop lessons that are age and developmentally appropriate. This unit recognises that children's development is influenced by diverse social and cultural backgrounds and abilities.
A further focus of the unit is to provide evidence-based strategies and skills that will enable participants to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
Within this unit is a 15 days Professional Experience placement.
1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the physical, social and intellectual development of primary aged children;
2. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of current theories of student learning;
3. Integrate knowledge of child development with knowledge of student learning; and
4. Apply knowledge of child development and learning to the education of all learners.

Students must have passed 11336 Curriculum and Assessment in Primary Education G AND 11349 Positive Learning Environments in Primary Education G.

This unit is only available to students in EDM001 Master of Primary Teaching.Students must have passed 11336 Curriculum and Assessment in Primary Education G AND 11349 Positive Learning Environments in Primary Education G.
