The context for this unit is the future of business and entrepreneurship in the 21st century and the role and practice for entrepreneurs in the future. The unit focuses in on behavioural theories, determining the knowledge, skills, attributes, characteristics, and qualities required to be a lifelong learner and entrepreneur. As such, students will gain insight into the entrepreneurial mind and perspectives and will have opportunities to increase their ability to network. The attributes, skills and knowledge include risk, opportunistic, creative and critical thinking, demonstrating innovation, collaboration and co-production, communicating, being ethical, inclusive and demonstrating socially responsible behaviour. Students will define entrepreneurship now and, in the future, and will undertake problem solving to create a unique value proposition. As first year students, they have the opportunity to start to build their own start-up enterprise, and work on this throughout their (entrepreneurship and innovation) degree. The unit introduces business planning for students by using a one page Canvas plan for their business venture and to locate funding sources. The unit provides the opportunity for students to continually develop, learn and grow as entrepreneurs for the future of business.
1. Articulate and explain the nature of entrepreneurship, its role in business, and the importance of entrepreneurship in today¿s economy/society;
2. Demonstrate good positive communication skills, industry connection, networking and relationship building with entrepreneurs and the business industry for their careers in the future;
3. Identify and apply entrepreneurial behaviour for their professional future and development. Including, emotional intelligence, overcoming obstacles, creative innovative and critical thinking, risk, collaboration and co-production, networking and communicating, ethical, inclusive, socially responsible behaviour, develop the ability to be opportunistic in an entrepreneurial environment and undertake reflective practice; and
4. Create the initial elements of your own business idea and locate sources of funding, information, and business support the future of the start-up business.

Learning outcomes
