This is an umbrella unit via which the candidate's research work is submitted for external examination in accordance with the Examination of Higher Degrees by Research Thesis policy. The candidate will compile the research papers completed in Research Component (Literature Review) A R, Research Component (Methodology and Data Collection) B R and the research report completed in Research Component (Research Report) C R (Parts A, B, C and Final) into a Research Portfolio. Working with your research supervisors and/or professional/industry advisers, the candidate will prepare a linking or overview paper not exceeding 5,000 words which reflects upon the contribution including future contribution of the research to professional practice and/or a body of knowledge in the relevant field of business, government or law. Candidates are also offered the option of appending supporting materials such as published papers and outcome products such as policy documents, business and/or professional reports and plans and webpages.
1. Demonstrate autonomy, authoritative judgement, adaptability and responsibility in the application of knowledge and skills as an expert and leading practitioner professional;
2. Demonstrate research, analytical and problem solving skills in novel situations, to identify and analyse complex and 'wicked problems' problems then formulate and implement appropriate and sustainable solutions;
3. Demonstrate awareness of contemporary ideas about applying knowledge management technologies to professional practice and/or business, government or legal organisations and institutions;
4. Disseminate and promote new insights to employers, peers, professional communities and the society;
5. Generate original knowledge and understanding to make a substantial contribution to existing professional practice and the production and/or application of knowledge;
6. Present knowledge, ideas and opinions effectively and communicate within and across professional and cultural boundaries;
7. Engage in critical reflection, synthesis and evaluation; and
8. Develop, adapt and implement research methodologies to extend and redefine existing professional practice and the production and/or application of knowledge.
The candidate should be confirmed in their thesis according to the HDR Progress and Milestone Policy or its equivalent.
Learning outcomes
The outcome of a research unit for individual students is contingent upon what each student brings to the work and the amount of energy and effort they deploy. However, a student who engages in the research work and training in this unit with diligence can expect to be able to demonstrate in the research report the ability to:1. Prerequisites
10386 Research Fundamentals PG, 10387 Reading and Critiquing Literature PG, 10388 Research Design PG, AND 10389 Current Research Issues in Business PG.The candidate should be confirmed in their thesis according to the HDR Progress and Milestone Policy or its equivalent.
