Athlete Monitoring PG (10156.2)

This unit provides advanced knowledge of the methods used to monitor the internal and external load of athletes during training and competition. Students will gain a critical understanding of the theory and application of athlete monitoring including player tracking systems, athlete self-report systems, performance testing and the principles of load monitoring. Throughout the duration of this unit, students will create their own athlete monitoring system and monitor an athlete or team for a period of eight weeks using the concepts learnt.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Review and interpret the different types of load on an athlete;
2. Critically evaluate the different systems and methods used to monitor athlete loads;
3. Synthesise and integrate athlete load data into a single web-based athlete monitoring interface; and
4. Interpret and communicate load monitoring data to a variety of audiences including coaches and athletes.
