Keep her fire burning

The piece is called keep her fire burning, I painted it with inspiration from not only this year’s theme ‘keep the fire burning blak loud and proud,’ but also a book that I read called My Tidda, My Sister by Marlee Silva. The authors stories really resonated with me and her journey to find her cultural identity through the love of her culture and those in her community. This is why I chose to use the image of a woman engulfed in flames, the flames representing culture, a burning branch close to her heart to show how important culture is to keep in our hearts.
