Each expression is painted with a child’s face, since children are more socially and emotionally aware and skilled. Although kids experience complex feelings just like adults, kids tend to experience emotions more intensely as they are less able to regulate their emotions. I wanted to include 3D elements, that being a face mask for each expression, which covers the emotion, as it is then lifted to reveal what is hidden underneath. The masks are symbolic to display that as we mature, we tend to hide emotions to protect ourselves from others' criticism.
