The short poem uses the metaphor of a lighthouse and a sailor out at sea to symbolically tell the story of someone who is struggling mentally. Even though there are people around them, they still feel alone and like they cannot reach out to anyone and cannot get help even as they crumble to dust. Eventually the lighthouse loses itself completely and leaves the sailor alone in the dark showing the sad realities of those trapped by mental health as well as the people they leave behind.
