This year 12 assignment is a short pastiche film about the protagonist’s hopelessness and despair as she goes about her everyday life. We do not quite know the source of her angst, but the framing and shot selection convey that she is struggling with something and eventually reaches breaking point.
My pastiche uses various commonly found techniques and iconic scenes from Masaki Kobayashi’s filmography to tell a new narrative, particularly borrowing from The Human Condition trilogy of anti-war films and his anti-samurai film Harakiri.
