I decided to create an ecological apartment due to the rise in the cost of living, which prompted for my design. In looking further in the cost of living it came become apparent to me that there was a disparity between houses and apartements and that more apartments needed to be made as an option for a more affordable lifestyle. By adding sustainable elements coupled with the methodology of passive design, this ultimately will reduce living costs inevitably. The use of solar facades helps to reduce energy costs, geothermal cooling and heating reduces the need for auxiliary cooling and heating as well as the use of wind ventilation. Plants were used in the apartment as a form of shading from the summer sun. Therefore, by creating more ecological apartments, this will create more options for affordable housing and decrease issues such as homelessness.
