Full Description:

This was an investigative task aimed at choosing an example of crime fiction, investigating the context in which the text was created and analysing how the chosen text reflects the value of the time and place. I’ve been a huge fan of the TV show Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries for a long time and so I was excited to choose this show and research it. I was excited to learn that it was actually based on a book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Greenwood’s book Cocaine Blues and really enjoyed getting to analyse one of my favourite TV shows. Miss Fisher is such a strong and unstoppable force who isn’t afraid to break away from the expectations that are placed on her. I found this a really enjoyable project as I got to research further into how Greenwood and the producers of the show cleverly integrated techniques to convey context, symbolise hidden meaning and subvert expectations of the cosy school narrative and hardboiled detective style. This task was originally an oral, however I altered the text slightly and included pictures from my PowerPoint to convert it into more of an article style. This has to be one of my favourite orals that I’ve ever written and based on the feedback I received, it was an engaging speech to listen to!
