The Doe is a short, second-person narrative following a young boy who is forced to hunt and provide for his family. He is left speechless at the sight of a doe, the picture of elegance, beauty and gentleness, nibbling on the foliage of the forest. Heartbroken, he takes up his bow, and shoots her down, haunted by her bellow of anguish, and her eyes full of death.
