Financial support for your teaching journey
Education scholarships at the University of Canberra are designed to support students preparing for a career in teaching, helping remove financial pressure while you focus on your studies and professional growth.
Available to eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students, these scholarships provide ongoing financial assistance for the duration of your degree. We’re here to support future teachers across their careers in early childhood, primary and secondary education.
Scholarship recipients may receive:

Education Directorate Teacher Pathway Program
Undergraduate
This pathway supports current ACT Education Directorate employees (1+ year of service) to study an undergraduate Initial Teacher Education degree and become qualified teachers, helping reduce financial barriers to study.
This scholarship is for eligible* ACT Education Directorate staff enrolling in undergraduate Education degrees at UC, including Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education courses.
Available support
Up to $11,000 per year for up to four years, paid annually for the standard full time duration of your degree. Graduates who take up a teaching role in an ACT public school may also receive a $6,000 appointment allowance, paid over two years.
ACT Priority Area Scholarship Program
Undergraduate and postgraduate
This scholarship supports students studying in priority teaching areas and helps reduce financial barriers to becoming a teacher.
This scholarship is for people starting an undergraduate or postgraduate ITE degree in in ACT priority teaching areas: languages, inclusive education and STEM.
Available support
Undergraduate: up to $11,000 per year for four years (maximum $50,000). Postgraduate: up to $9,500 per year for two years (maximum $25,000).
Graduates who take up a teaching role in an ACT public school may also receive a $6,000 appointment allowance, paid over two years.
ITE Scholarship Program for Career Changers
Postgraduate
This scholarship supports career changers entering the teaching profession and helps build a strong, future ready education workforce.
This scholarship is for postgraduate students enrolling in eligible Initial Teacher Education degrees at UC, including Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education courses.
Available support
Up to $9,500 per year for up to two years, paid annually for the standard full time duration of your degree.
Graduates who take up a teaching role in an ACT public school may also receive a $6,000 appointment allowance, paid over two years.
Students do not need to submit a separate scholarship application. Eligibility is assessed after enrolment, with recipients notified by the Faculty of Education.
Payments are made annually, subject to ongoing enrolment and progression.

These scholarships support people at different stages of their journey into teaching, whether you are starting your first Education degree, changing careers or building on your existing experience to become a qualified teacher.
These scholarships are part of the ACT Government Scholarship and Career Pathways to Teaching Program and support students studying eligible Initial Teacher Education (ITE) degrees at UC. These include undergraduate and postgraduate Education courses leading to careers in Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary teaching.
Different scholarship streams support different pathways into teaching, depending on where you are in your career and where you want to go next. This includes career changers entering the profession through postgraduate study, current ACT Education Directorate employees undertaking an undergraduate teaching qualification, as well as students studying in priority teaching areas aligned to workforce needs (including areas such as STEM, languages and inclusive education) where there is strong demand for future teachers.
Eligible students may receive ongoing financial support paid annually for the duration of their degree. Undergraduate students may receive up to $11,000 per year for up to four years, while postgraduate students may receive up to $9,500 per year for up to two years, subject to enrolment and progression.
Graduates who take up a permanent or temporary teaching role in an ACT public school may also receive a $6,000 appointment allowance, paid over two years by the ACT Government. This brings the maximum total value to $50,000 for undergraduate study and $25,000 for postgraduate study.
You do not need to submit a separate application for the ACT Government teaching scholarships.
Eligibility is automatically assessed after you enrol in an eligible Initial Teacher Education degree at the University of Canberra. Successful recipients will be notified by the Faculty of Education.
Scholarship payments are made annually, subject to ongoing enrolment and satisfactory academic progression.
These ACT Government funded scholarships aim to support students studying in priority teaching areas and help reduce financial barriers to becoming a teacher. In partnership with the University of Canberra, they support the development of a skilled, diverse and future ready teaching workforce.
Studying Education at UC offers strong industry connections, flexible study options and practical learning experiences that prepare graduates for real teaching environments.
All eligible students within the cohort are automatically considered once enrolled. Scholarship recipients are selected by the Faculty of Education from students enrolled in eligible Education degrees. No additional application is required.
Scholarships are available to eligible domestic students commencing full-time ITE study between 2026 and 2029.
