UC Indigenous Australian HDR Stipend Scholarship
The Indigenous Australian Higher Degree by Research Stipend Scholarship supports engaged and ambitious indigenous applicants to undertake a PhD or Master by Research course.
How to Apply?
Apply through the HDR Application Portal.
Funding and duration
$36225 per annum (2025 rate, tax-free) stipend up to four years for a doctoral course and two years for a masters course.
$10,000 of research funding is available to be used for any cost related to the project.
Eligibility
- enrolled, or seeking to enrol, as a full-time candidate in a Higher Degree by Research course at the University of Canberra;
- meet the requirements for admission; and
- identify as an Indigenous Australian.

W J Weeden Postgraduate Research Scholarship
This Scholarship is generously funded by the family of the late W J Weeden.
How to Apply?
Apply through the HDR Application Portal.
Funding
- $36,225per annum (2025 rate, tax-free) stipend to assist with living costs, indexed annually.
- reimbursement of Overseas Health Cover (OSHC for single person). Further details in the Conditions of Award.
- International candidates will also be awarded an RTP Fee Offset scholarship to cover tuition fees.
Duration
- 3.5 years
Eligibility
- completed a Bachelor degree with First Class Honours, or be regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment
- be enrolled, or seeking to enrol, as a full-time candidate in a Doctor of Philosophy course at the University
- domestic student (Australian citizen or permanent resident, New Zealand citizen) or international student.

Australian Research Training Program Fees Offset Scholarship
Eligibility
- domestic student (Australian citizen or permanent resident, New Zealand citizen)
- applying for or currently undertaking a Higher Degree by Research course (PhD, Professional Doctorate, Masters by Research).
- A RTP Fees Offset Scholarship may be offered to international HDR candidates whose application for an RTP, University-funded or W J Weedon stipend scholarship has been assessed as competitive by the University Research Scholarship Committee.
How to Apply?
- No application required for domestic candidates.
- International RTP, University-funded or W J Weedon stipend scholarship recipients may be awarded a RTP Fee Offset Scholarship. No application required.

UC CIRI Scholarship Program
Established in 2016 by UC CIRI, this scholarship program has been set up to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at UC who are pursuing a course of study beyond a Bachelor Degree.

Joint PhD Scholarship
CSIRO Industry PhD scholarship program
CSIRO's Industry PhD (iPhD) Program brings together an industry partner, a university and Australia’s leading science agency, CSIRO, to co-develop a four-year industry-focused PhD project. It provides PhD students with a unique skill set to focus on impact driven research.
How to Apply?
The program has yearly intakes with most projects planned to commence in February/March. Project opportunities, including how to apply, will be advertised on the CSIRO Students and Scholarships webpage as they become available.

- a four-year Project Expense and Development package of up to $13,000 pa

Data61 PhD scholarship
CSIRO's Data61 aims to develop top-quality doctoral students who will prosper in careers in Australia’s data-skilled workforce. The Data61 PhD scholarship program provides opportunities for outstanding postgraduate students with demonstrated academic and research excellence to further their careers at one of Australia’s most trusted organisations.

Just Transmission – PhD scholarship
Overview of the scholarship
The University of Canberra invites applications for a PhD position on the ARC-funded project Just transmission: advancing coherence in Australia’s electricity policy. The research will examine how communities and policymakers manage competing objectives in the development of electricity transmission infrastructure.
The PhD student’s project will explore how communities and policy-makers navigate synergies and tensions among multiple policy objectives in Australia’s energy transition, with a focus on new electricity transmission infrastructure projects, which are widely considered to be a foundation for the expansion of large-scale renewable energy.
The position will be a joint appointment across the Canberra School of Government, the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and the Centre for Environmental Governance, all of which are located in the Faculty of Business, Government and Law. The PhD student will join a world-class, vibrant interdisciplinary research grouping and will be a member of the intellectual community associated with the School and the Centres, and so participate in their collective life including seminars, reading groups, workshops and public engagement activities.
Funding details – what the scholarship/stipend covers
Annual stipend: $39,706
For international candidates:
- Single Overseas Student Health Cover fees up to $4,200 over the student’s candidature
- Up to $1,600 towards the cost of visa fees
In addition to the scholarship itself, the position includes the following funding over the duration of the project:
- $5,000 in Faculty funding for fieldwork
- $7,000 in project funding for conference presentations

Required attributes:

- be enrolled, or seeking to enrol, as a full-time candidate in a Higher Degree by Research course at the University; and
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen; or an Australian permanent resident or an international student eligible to study in Australia on an international student visa.

2026-27 ACSPRI Fellowship Program for PhD Candidates
PhD Candidates at ACSPRI Member organisations are invited to apply for the 2026-27 ACSPRI Fellowship Program. Applicants from Social Science and relevant fields are welcome to apply.
The Fellowship provides direct financial support (see Funding section) and professional development. Candidates from the University of Canberra are now welcome to apply.

2026 Elevate: Boosting diversity in STEM program
The Elevate program is designed to boost diversity in STEM. It provides access to skill-building workshops, peer mentoring and networking events, and 24/7 wellbeing and psychosocial support, in addition to financial scholarships (see Funding section).
How to Apply?
- Applications can be completed online through the ATSE Elevate program portal. The portal is hosted by GoodGrants.
- The GoodGrants Ultimate Guide for Applicants may assist you in registering and completing your application.
- Applicants are encouraged to start the application process early, as applications can be saved as you progress through the portal.

Geospatial Modelling of Dengue Co-Funded Stipend Ph D Scholarship
The Geospatial Modelling of Dengue is awarded to an applicant of exceptional research potential undertaking a PhD on the Public Health. This PhD project aims to investigate the impact of climate change on the transmission of dengue fever in the Asia Pacific region.

Elite Editing Thesis Write-up Scholarship
How to Apply?
- Applications will open on 1 January and close on 30 June each year.
- The scholarship will be awarded prior to 31 July each year.

Funding
- For students who do not hold another scholarship, a stipend of $1,000 per fortnight for six fortnights ($6,000 in total), tax free.
- For students who do hold another scholarship, a stipend of $600 per fortnight for six fortnights ($3,600 in total), tax free.

- 6 fortnightly payments
Eligibility
- Students must be enrolled full time in a research degree (Masters or PhD) at an Australian or New Zealand university.
- Part-time students are eligible to apply for the scholarship only in circumstances where the applicant is able to demonstrate heavy carer commitments or a medical condition that precludes them from studying full time.

Fullbright Postgraduate Scholarships
Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships allow postgraduate students undertaking their Australian PhD to conduct research in the U.S. OR supports postgraduate students not currently enrolled in a degree program to undertake a U.S. postgraduate program such as a master’s or PhD or conduct a period of research towards their Australian PhD.
