The Digital Music Composition Minor is designed for students interested in using technology to compose contemporary music. It uses a series of authentic scenarios and cross-disciplinary collaborations to practise contemporary song writing, stylistic techniques and music production, composing using samplers and synthesizers, as well as a specialist unit in screen media composition. While much of the minor promotes composition through analysis of commercial, stylistic conventions and techniques, there is also opportunity for experimentation. There is a gradual progression from basic concepts and techniques to advanced practice throughout the minor, with embedded historical perspective and musicianship. Though instrumental skills and music theory is recommended, it is not a pre-requisite for this minor. The minor is not restricted to students studying the Bachelor of Contemporary Music Practice. It does not have pre/co-requisites or other enrolment restrictions.
