The objectives of the major are to develop students' analytical ability to dissect and analyse complex planning problems and environments, understand the underlying issues and make rational decisions based on reasoned argument. Skills and techniques are developed to balance social, environment and economic values and resources in transparent and accountable processes. Students will be able to understand the roles of government, intergovernmental relations and the role of the private sector.

Students should note that the level 4 unit Urban Systems forms part of this major. This unit is not planned to be introduced until 2012.
