The news media reflect the world to itself and help citizens understand their place in the world. This major introduces students to key concepts of news media practice. Students will be introduced to print, broadcast and online journalism theory and practice and will be exposed to the major ethical issues and debates within the industry.
Students wishing to complete the 21 credit point option will take an extra unit either 6981 Investigative Journalism or 9025 Long Form Journalism.
Prerequisite and/or Corequisite: None.
ACT: English (T) major; NSW: 2u English. Students completing Year 12 would be best prepared by emphasising courses in English composition and literature, history, art, media, psychology, public speaking and social sciences, including economics and graphics. Students need a keen interest in local, regional, national and international news and current affairs.
