Behind every story of sporting excellence is the often-untold story of skilled planning and strong management. This major program takes the substantial history of sport management education at the University of Canberra and combines it with contemporary issues, innovations and sport business; with a strong focus on work integrated learning with practical outcomes you will be prepared to enter the rapidly growing global industry that is the management of sport.
Throughout the major you will develop a strong working knowledge of management theory and practice. The major has been co-designed by academics and leading industry and government professionals to ensure you graduate with relevant and contemporary sport management skills.
The course covers aspects of sport from grass roots community levels through to studying high performance sport management at Olympic and professional levels. The degree takes you through the journey of sport from an amateur past-time to the evolution of the globalised, commercialised, and professionalised industry that it is today.
Many industries interact with the sporting world and this major is designed to appeal to students from a range of disciplines. You will be equipped with the knowledge required to collaborate and support the sport ecosystem. You may aspire to be a marketer, urban planner, journalist, business leader, politician, sport scientist, tourism operator, event manager, or many other roles that intersect with the business of sport.
