Sexual violence information and resources

The University of Canberra proudly stands alongside universities across Australia in championing the Respect. Now. Always. (RNA) initiative.

Through RNA, we are committed to educating students, staff, and the wider community about gender-based violence-its underlying drivers and the actions we can take to prevent it.

UC is also dedicated to implementing the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence. This commitment ensures strong leadership, safe and inclusive environments, trauma-informed support, and proactive education and training to protect and empower every member of our community.

Learn about Respectful Relationships and Consent

In Respect Matters, you’ll learn how to build healthy, respectful relationships and contribute to a safe campus community.

The course covers understanding gender-based violence, consent and communication skills, supporting others, and promoting inclusion, equipping you with practical strategies to engage confidently and compassionately.

Educational resources

Learning about preventing gender-based violence and its underlying drivers can feel overwhelming and knowing where to start isn’t always easy. All UC students and staff are encouraged to complete the Respect Matters modules, which offer a strong, practical foundation for further learning. Students and staff can also support the Respect. Now. Always. initiative by attending events and taking part in campus campaigns. Some of our favourite resources are:

  • The Line,
  • Our Watch,
  • Women’s And Girls Emergency Centre,
  • Teach Us Consent
  • Safe + Equal

Further Community Support Resources

In addition to UC’s support services, there are trusted community organisations that can provide confidential help, advice, and counselling. These include 1800RESPECT for 24/7 national support, Canberra Rape Crisis Centre, Domestic Violence Crisis Service, Lifeline, and MensLine Australia. These services are here to listen, support, and guide you whenever you need it.
