UC Prep
An enabling course for mature age students
If you’re interested in applying for a University of Canberra undergraduate degree, but don’t currently meet the entry requirements, our UC Prep program can help develop your skills and qualify you for admission.
UC Prep is a pathways program for those who finished school a while ago, haven’t studied for some time or are looking to upskill, retrain or move into the para-professional world.
How does UC Prep work?
The UC Prep bridging course program has been developed by the University of Canberra together with UC College. When you’ve successfully completed the program, you can apply for admission to UC.
UC Prep will prepare you for admission to a UC degree by improving your skills in:
- research
- report and essay writing
- numeracy
- oral presentations
- time management
- online learning.
Online Delivery Mode:
- A 14-week program
- Online study via UCLearn that includes pre-recorded lectures and associated activities
- Flexible and self-paced learning
- Meet with the Program Coordinator and teacher as required
Face to Face Delivery Mode:
- UC Prep is a 14-week course and offered three times a year
- There are two classes each week (four hours per week) held at the University of Canberra’s Bruce campus.

UC Prep eligibility
To be eligible for a place in the UC Prep program, you’ll need to:
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold an Australian permanent residency visa
- Aged over 19 years and completed secondary/senior secondary school over two years ago
- have been out of education for more than two years.
If you don't meet these conditions, but can prove you’re likely to succeed in the UC Prep program, you can ask to attend an interview where you can present your case to our admissions panel.
UC Prep program fees
Australian and New Zealand citizens or Australian Permanent Residents are eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Enabling place for UC Connect. It’s considered an enabling course and the Australian Government will cover your entire program fee.
All students need to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee.
Application and intake dates
The program runs multiple times throughout the year, giving you the opportunity to enrol and complete it ready for the start of the next University teaching period.
For information on future program dates visit the UC College course dates information.
If you have any questions about upcoming intakes and course requirements, please email ucc.admissions@canberra.edu.au.
How to apply to UC Prep
To apply for UC Prep you’ll need to:
- visit UC’s online application portal and complete the online application form
- upload all relevant certified documentation as requested on the form, such as your academic transcripts and birth certificate or Australian passport.
If your first language isn’t English or you’ve been in Australia for under two years, you may need to attend an interview.
Offers for entry to UC degrees after you’ve successfully completed the UC Prep program will depend on your UC Prep results. You may also need to meet a series of inherent requirements to successfully graduate from your UC Prep bridging course.
It’s worth noting that not all UC courses are available to study through the UC Prep program, as some degrees require a higher entry score than can be achieved via a Pathways program.
Contact UC College if you’re considering studying the Bachelor of Midwifery as a supplementary application form may be required.
