If you’re a current Year 12 student applying to UC for undergraduate study next year, you could receive an early admission offer under the Early Offer Round using criteria other than your ATAR.
Early Offers will be opening in May 2024
You can find out more about the Early Offer Round by contacting our Future Students Team.
Telephone: 1800 864 226
Email: study@canberra.edu.au
To be eligible for the Early Offer Round, you must be a current Year 12 student enrolled in a school located in the ACT or NSW and intending to go to university. For example, if you are studying a tertiary package in the ACT, pursuing the HSC leading to an ATAR in NSW, or are undertaking the International Baccalaureate (IB), you can apply for admission to the University of Canberra in advance of receiving your ATAR results, which will instead be based on your Year 11 results and a personal statement.
When applying for the Early Offer Round, your achieved results from the relevant Year 11 subjects will be assessed by UC. ‘Relevant subjects’ are ‘T’ or ‘H’ subjects in the ACT, specific HSC subjects that are used for the ATAR calculation[N1] in NSW, and subjects undertaken in Year 11 through the International Baccalaureate (IB) which are used to calculate your ATAR.
If your Year 11 results use a numerical scoring system, an overall percentage will be calculated by adding the numerical grades across all your relevant Year 11 subjects and then divided by the number of subjects completed. If your Year 11 results use the alphabetical grade system (e.g., A, B, C, D, E) a Grade Point Average will be calculated (Calculations for this can be found below).
An overall percentage of at least 60%* or a Grade Point Average of at least 3/5 in Year 11 is required to be considered for admission through the Special January Early Offer Round. You will also need to achieve an overall percentage or Grade Point Average in Year 11 that matches the selection rank of your preferred UC degree, as outlined in the table below.
UC Course Selection Rank |
Year 11 Overall Percentage Minimum |
Year 11 GPA 5 Scale |
Year 11 GPA 7 Scale |
---|---|---|---|
60-69 |
60% |
3/5 |

70-79 |

3.5/5 |

80+ |

We will also review your personal statement that outlines why you would like to receive an early offer.
*Number percentage results will be used to calculate the overall percentage. However, where letter results only are provided, each grade is assigned a score (A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1) and an overall percentage equivalent is created based on the total score divided by the number of subjects. For example, if you received grades of one A, three Bs and two Cs, your eligibility percentage would be calculated as:
1 A = (1x5) = 5
3 B = (3x4) = 12
2 C = (2x3) = 6
Total = 23/6 (number of subjects) = 3.8/5 = 76%

The majority of undergraduate courses at UC are included in the Early Offer Round, but there are some that are excluded from this particular admission program. Make sure you check our list of Early Offer Round-eligible courses before applying.
You can apply for the Early Offer Round at UC in two easy steps:
Applications will be open from Monday 15 May and must be submitted with all supporting documentation by Sunday 27 August. Preferences must be finalised in UAC by 31 August to ensure time for assessment. Offers will be issued to domestic students on Thursday 7 September, and to international students on Friday 1 September.
If you are an international student currently in Year 12, enrolled in a school located in the ACT or NSW and intended to go to university you may be eligible for the Early Offer Round. For example, if you are studying a tertiary package in the ACT, pursuing the HSC leading to an ATAR in NSW, or are undertaking the International Baccalaureate (IB), you can apply for admission to the University of Canberra for the Early Offer Round.
Your offer of admission to UC through the Early Offer Round will require you to complete Year 12. However, you won’t be required to achieve a specific ATAR result.
If there are any additional requirements, our UC team may reach out to you.
If your application is successful and you receive an offer through the Early Offer Round, you can defer your place at UC for either six months or one year, depending on your course availability.
If your early offer application is unsuccessful, you can still apply via the Schools Recommendation Scheme through UAC, or using your ATAR through any of the UAC rounds.
The personal statement outlines why you would like to receive an early offer. You will be required to answer the following question in 300 words or less:
“What courses are you interested in studying, and why have you chosen to apply for these courses at the University of Canberra?”
Along with your standard UAC application you'll need to fill in the supplementary form.
Applications open 15 May and close 27 August.
