It powers better public services but threatens privacy and individual rights. The laws governing data protection and emerging technologies are evolving rapidly, creating an urgent demand for professionals who understand both the legal frameworks and the challenges they pose. Unit 12302 Australian Data Protection and Privacy Law lays the legal foundations for data protection and governance, including recent reforms that have fundamentally reshaped enforcement. Unit 12303 Information Governance Frameworks and Data Strategy teaches you to design governance frameworks that integrate multiple legal requirements. You'll learn how to balance data sharing for public benefit with security, privacy, and transparency obligations. You'll draft actual policies addressing real implementation challenges. Unit 12304 Administrative Law and Data Governance Compliance G examines the constitutional and administrative law principles that set boundaries on government power. You'll understand why decisions are subject to judicial review and how to ensure your workplace practices withstand this scrutiny. Unit 12305 Emerging Technologies and Data Ethics in Law examines the emerging technologies reshaping data governance, including artificial intelligence, and other innovations, raising legal questions that existing frameworks don't adequately address. You'll develop the ethical judgment to lead your organisation's response. Throughout the Graduate Certificate, you'll engage with international perspectives, contemporary scholarship, and the real challenges organisations face today. By completion, you'll have genuine expertise in a field where demand for skilled professionals continues to grow, whether you're working in government, private-sector compliance, policy development, or advocacy.
Admissions to this course is restricted to nominated APS staff only.
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) including in any non-law discipline, with a GPA of at least 5/7.
