How to customise our website

Website accessibility customisation tool

UC uses Recite Me, a website accessibility toolbar that enables you to customise your experience of our website so you can choose how you interact with our content and services.

Key features of the toolbar

  • Translation and language support: the toolbar supports over 100 languages, enabling you to read content in your preferred language. It also includes a dictionary.
  • Text-to-Speech: the toolbar converts website text into natural-sounding speech for over 65 languages, making it easier for those with visual impairments or reading difficulties to comprehend our content.
  • Customisable reading options: you can adjust font styles, sizes, colours, and background contrasts to suit your preference, enhancing readability and reducing eye strain.
  • Immersive reading experience: you can access a screen mask to focus on specific content, eliminating distractions and improving concentration.

How to launch our accessibility toolbar

When launched, our toolbar sits on top of our website making it easy to adjust our site in context to suit your individual needs.

The accessibility toolbar can be enabled in the following ways.

  • Desktop: The ‘Accessibility and language options’ prompt in the top left, above UC’s logo

FAQs

No. The toolbar uses cloud-based software so there is no need to install anything on your computer.

To disable the auto-read function, you need to click on the button marked “Settings”. This will give you a list of three functions to choose from.

You need to click on the bottom to the right of the option marked “Autoplay”. This will then disable auto-read.

To change the language on UC's website, just select “Change language” from the toolbar and then choose from the drop-down list. Once you've decided on the language that you want from the list and selected it, the site will then be converted to that language.

Languages with the "Audio" icon denote languages where the text on webpage can be read aloud by the toolbar in the language you've selected.

To close the accessibility toolbar, just click on the icon marked X to the right of the toolbar.
