13 members of the University of Canberra community named in the Queen's Birthday Honours List

8 June 2020: Thirteen members of the University of Canberra community have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List today, including 11 members of alumni.

University of Canberra alumna Anna Prosser has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for her service to women and the ACT community.

Anna graduated from the University of Canberra with a Master of Arts in Community Education in 2000 after completing a Graduate Diploma in Community Counselling in 1998.

She has been a community leader across a range of roles including as President of the Women’s International Club of Canberra, and as a board member of the Canberra Music Festival. Anna is also a member of the Australian National University Human Ethics Research Committee.

Anna is among three other alumni who received an OAM.

1999 alumna, Jennifer Cross, graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, and has this year been awarded an OAM for service to children and families impacted by dyslexia.

Annabelle Daniel received a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration in 2001 and was awarded her OAM for service to women through social welfare initiatives.

Mark Peters has been awarded an OAM for service to sports administration and to baseball. Mr Peters is a former Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Health, where he worked between 2007 and 2010,

Georgia Pinkas is a University of Canberra alumna who completed a Graduate Diploma in Recreational Planning in 1979. She was awarded an OAM for service to the community of the ACT.

University of Canberra Honorary Degree recipient, Atticus Fleming, has been recognised for his significant service to the conservation of endangered wildlife and habitats. Mr Fleming, the inaugural CEO of the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, has been awarded as a Member of the Order (AM).

In addition to those listed above, four alumni have been recognised in the Military Division of the Order of Australia.

Rear Admiral Jonathon Mead, who completed a Master of Management in Defence Studies in 2002, has been awarded an AO in the Military Division.

Commodore Richard Boulton, RAN, completed a Master of Management in Defence Studies in 2004 and has received an AM in the Military Division.

Brigadier Shane Gabriel, DSC, gained a Master of Management in Defence Studies from the University of Canberra in 2002 and has been awarded an AM in the Military Division.

Colonel Richard Parker completed a Master of Management in Defence Studies in 2002 and received an AM in the Military Division.

Also honoured today were three University of Canberra alumni, who received Military Awards.

Wing Commander Wayne Bradley graduated with a Master of Management in Defence Studies in 2002 and has been awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC).

Also awarded a CSC was Air Vice-Marshall Vincent Lervasi, who graduated with a Master of Management in Defence Studies in 2001.

Colonel Mark Welburn who completed a Master of Management in Defence Studies in 2005 has also been honoured with a Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC).

The University of Canberra recognises and congratulates all members of the community who were named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. It is evident that the significant contribution they have made to society has not gone unnoticed.
