Biography
Mandy has almost thirty years of diverse experience as a primary school educator, having taught early, middle, and upper primary classes in Wollongong, Sydney, Canberra, and rural NSW. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Education (Class I Honours) from the University of Wollongong, she has worked as both a classroom teacher and executive coordinator across six schools spanning the public, independent, and Catholic sectors. In addition to her classroom and leadership roles, Mandy completed further postgraduate studies in educational leadership, culminating in a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of Canberra in 2014.
She is currently completing her PhD at the University of Canberra. Her thesis, A Philosophical Interrogation of the Australian Primary School Crisis, applies philosophical inquiry to examine the systemic pressures and challenges confronting contemporary Australian primary education.
Mandy’s extensive experience in curriculum planning and programming - including inquiry-based learning and International Baccalaureate frameworks - has enabled her to apply authentic assessment strategies to improve student outcomes and foster innovative approaches to teaching and learning. She has taught across all key learning areas, with particular interests in extension mathematics, STEM robotics, debating, snowsports, and visual arts. In her leadership roles, she has coordinated Professional Learning Communities, Student Parliament, sporting carnivals, interschool debating competitions, interschool snowsports, and gifted and talented extension programs.
At the University of Canberra, Mandy convenes and teaches curriculum and STEM units. She is committed to providing her pre-service teachers with balanced, engaging, and intellectually rigorous learning experiences, and recognises the importance of building strong, strategic partnerships with stakeholders to enhance student outcomes. She values innovative pedagogies that challenge, inspire, and promote lifelong learning both within and beyond the classroom.
