Biography

Mandy has significant and varied experience as a primary school educator having worked in that capacity for over twenty years across a range of early, middle and upper-primary classrooms in Wollongong, Sydney, Canberra, and rural NSW. Since graduating from the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Education, she has been a classroom teacher and executive coordinator, and has taught in six schools across all educational sectors – public, independent and Catholic. During her career, Mandy has also pursued further post-graduate qualifications relevant to her interests in educational leadership, culminating in the award of a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of Canberra in 2014.

Now in higher education, the pedagogical perspectives, skills and understandings that Mandy holds as an educator and administrator place her in a commanding position to work within the tertiary space. Her extensive experience in curriculum planning and programming, including inquiry-based teaching and learning through various curricular programs within the International Baccalaureate system, have ensured the accuracy of authentic assessment data in improving student outcomes whilst also providing new and innovative ways to shed light on evolving skills and understandings.

Mandy has taught across all key learning areas, but her main educational interests include extension mathematics, STEM robotics, debating, snowsports and visual arts. In her coordinator roles, Mandy has led Professional Learning Communities, sporting carnivals, interschool debating competitions, interschool snowsports, gifted and talented extension, and student parliament.

Mandy convenes and teaches curriculum and STEM units at the University of Canberra. She has a clear understanding and appreciation of the need to present her pre-service teachers with balanced, stimulating, informative and enjoyable teaching and learning experiences, and understands the importance of developing strong and strategic partnerships with stakeholders in the enhancement of student outcomes. Mandy values the implementation of innovative, challenging and engaging pedagogical approaches that promote life-long learning inside and outside of the classroom.
