The role of the University of Canberra Art Collection is to encourage a general awareness and understanding of the visual arts among the University community and to engage with the broader ACT community through display and exhibition.
The decision to establish a fund for the purchase of works of art was taken by the Council of the Canberra College of Advanced Education at their meeting on 29 June 1969. From the outset the College sought to focus the collection by acquiring the work of Australian artists across a variety of styles and techniques. In recent years the University has sought to collect the work of Australian artists with connections to Canberra and the surrounding region and to build a sound collection of works by Australian Indigenous artists.
The UC Art collection is launching a new and exciting project to re-label the works of art displayed around the Bruce Campus. This will provide greater access to the works of art by the University community and the general public for education and research purposes. We envisage new labels to include a QR code that will link the physical work of art to a sub-page on this site which will provide more information. We are also seeking your views and support and would like to hear what you think about the works of art being labelled. Please note that this is a work in progress and as information becomes available, new pages on works of art will be released.
