Data, Analytics and Solutions PG (12173.1)

This unit prepares a new generation of managers, leaders, thinkers, and problem-solvers to succeed in an increasingly competitive, innovative, and challenging business world. It responds to the growing importance of research, discovery and data in a knowledge economy that is global, smart, disruptive, and uncertain. It focuses on building the capacity for solving real-world problems creatively, critically, and responsibly. To do so, it introduces theoretical and methodological approaches to original research; develops hands-on techniques and skills of designing a research project for implementation; and explores data collection and analysis including opportunities and pitfalls in big data and artificial intelligence. The teaching and learning activities are centred on tackling problems through identifying discovery-based solutions to inform business strategy, policy, and decision making.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Propose a research project addressing a real-world problem of significance and communicate this to stakeholders;
2. Conduct a critical literature review to contextualise and underpin a research project's innovation and contribution; and
3. Master advanced research methods, techniques and skills to generate new knowledge and suggest solutions.
