Nursing Practice 4 (NP4) is the capstone clinically focussed unit and builds on the foundations established in Nursing Practice 3 (NP3), Nursing Practice 2 (NP2) and Nursing Practice 1 (NP1). The unit incorporates assessment that prepares students for professional registration as well as enhancing student understanding of the registered nurse as a professional, legal accountability, reflection in practice, clinical reasoning, and teamwork. This unit has a strong focus on the Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia's (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for practice.
1. Communicate and collaborate confidently and respectfully with patients, carers and families, in all situations and between multidisciplinary teams and clinicians, and across health service organisations;
2. Practice within legal and ethical parameters, anticipate and respond to human and systems factors that potentially jeopardise patient safety, and take appropriate actions to prevent errors and near misses with high level personal autonomy and accountability;
3. Critically appraise research evidence and integrate knowledge to contribute to the promotion of health, and to the provision of person centred care and provides evidence of using research to inform their practice;
4. Successfully complete a seven (7) week clinical placement by demonstrating clinical competence to the standard outlined in the Clinical Assessment Tool and attains the standard expected for registration as a registered nurse in Australia;
5. Contextualise different bodies of knowledge and understanding of nursing assessment, intervention and planning in all aspects of care; and
6. Synthesise knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, health care systems and service delivery to provide culturally safe, quality health care.
Learning outcomes
