My piece, ‘Azure Forest’, is a small series of layered, mixed media works that I made for a local Braidwood exhibition called ‘Regeneration’. It consists of 5 artworks no larger than an A3 page. The background of each is a brilliant blue with white silhouettes of leaves. A watered down, dark acrylic paint has been splattered over this blue. The works are then layered with black and white drawings of eucalyptus and fern trees and leaves. I created this piece in response to Australia’s black summer fires in 2019 and 2020 to appreciate and celebrate the strength of our native plant species.
