Brisbane State High School - Year 11

'Gardens are a calm and tranquil place, providing harmony between humans and nature, a symbiotic relationship: humans care for the plants, providing shelter and care, plants provide temperature regulations, constant oxygen flow (lessening air pollution) and soft calming aesthetic.

Brisbane state high school has become a school that’s heavily geometric, concrete and synthetic, being located near the city and adjacent to a main road with constant amounts of cars rushing by. It’s followed a more modern aesthetic with blocky shapes, and lack of round, smoothed natural shapes. A lack of plants is also noticeable, with very few green spaces.

The proposal is upgrading the neglected school garden adjacent to the public Musgrave swimming pool. By renovating the garden, it creates a space for students to come and relax, for flora and fauna to thrive and for the school to become more natural, being an aesthetic contrast whilst also being ecologically friendly.
