The Ainslie Avenue bus shelter design ideas competition offered students a real-world opportunity to contribute ideas towards the possible reimaging of the existing bus shelter and public plaza that services the Canberra (Retail) Centre.
Located on the Ainslie Avenue cul de sac, the site lies on the Mount Ainslie - Capital Hill land axis, an important historical axis marked by a line of existing deciduous trees. Beyond a gateway to the City’s most vibrant retail precinct, the design brief challenged the student teams to explore relevant historical, cultural, and programming possibilities of the precinct in order to propose an engaging and dynamic public domain.
The competition was generously supported by the Canberra Centre, Mather Architecture, and the University of Canberra’s Faculty of Arts and Design.
The competition was open to all students currently enrolled in one of the University of Canberra’s Built Environment degrees. The 16 shortlisted teams presented in this exhibition, represented by students from across the disciplines of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture and Industrial Design.
