Frequently Asked Questions

All NEW undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Canberra, University of Canberra College and Year 12 students at the University of Canberra Senior Secondary College, Lake Ginninderra are eligible to receive a free copy of the 2020 UC Book of the Year, Barbed Wire and Cherry Blossoms.

All On-going, Fixed-term, and Sessional staff of University of Canberra who are employed at the time of the launch (November 2019) are eligible to receive a free copy of the 2020 UC Book of the Year.

All commencing undergraduate, postgraduate students and eligible staff will receive an email, advising their eligibility of a free copy of Barbed Wire and Cherry Blossoms, and they can collect it from the UC Library or Student Central.

Yes, all commencing undergraduate and postgraduate students in 2020 are required to read the Barbed Wire and Cherry Blossoms.

Different courses will incorporate the concepts and content of the book in different ways, and there are several activities planned for the year for which students will need to have read the book.

You are also encouraged to share your thoughts about the book on-line, and to make new friends discussing the book with staff and students. But besides that, it is a terrific book, so don't be the only person not knowing what all the fuss is about.

If you are a commencing undergraduate or postgraduate student at the University of Canberra or commencing student at the University of Canberra College, please make sure you have activated your student email account and check your inbox for your UC Book offer email. If you have not received the email, please: -

  • Check the junk email folder in your UC student email account for the email;
  • Check the deleted items folder in your UC student email account for the email.

If you are not a commencing undergraduate or postgraduate student, you will not receive the book offer as part of the project, but you can borrow the book from UC Library.

Otherwise, please contact UCBookProject@canberra.edu.au providing your name and student ID number and explain that you have not received the UC Book offer email.

If you are an On-going, Fixed-term or Sessional staff at the University of Canberra, please check your UC staff email inbox for your UC Book offer email. If you have not received the email, please: -

  • Check the junk email folder in your UC staff email account for the email;
  • Check the deleted items folder in your UC staff email account for the email;
  • Confirm that you are not a casual staff member.

If you are not an On-going, Fixed-term or Sessional staff employed at the time of launch (November 2019), you will not receive the book offer as part of the project, but you can borrow the book from UC Library.

Otherwise, please contact UCBookProject@canberra.edu.au providing your name and staff ID number and explain that you have not received the UC Book offer email.

Copies of the Barbed Wire and Cherry Blossoms are available for borrowing from the UC Library, Building 8. You can check availability of the book using the Library catalogue.
