Description

These two still lifes by Robin Nelson were painted between 1973 and 1974 with scenes taken from the artist’s daily domestic life. The pencil and watercolour of Swiss chard is delicately executed while in ‘Loquats and Pencils’ the artist plays with the use of colour and focus by solely colouring the loquat tin holding the artist’s pencils.

The two studies are from the artist’s garden: the hills hoist airer and ‘Small Garden’ play with perspective, patterns and shapes to create an enclosed and intimate view of the artist’s home.

These works are some of the first pieces acquired by the Collection.
