Faculty of Health Professorial Lecture - Presented by: Professor Douglas Boer

Statistical Significance is not the same as Cultural Significance

Additional Information

This presentation will review my journey of becoming increasingly culturally sensitive in risk assessment and risk management with Aboriginal offenders. There have been modest improvements internationally regarding risk assessment with Aboriginal offenders, but most of these attempts have been philosophically rooted in non-Aboriginal methods. One way forward is proposed.

Professor Douglas Boer has taught in the Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Canberra for the past 9 years. Prior to becoming an academic at the University of Waikato in 2006, he worked for the Correctional Service of Canada for 15 years. One of his primary interests is the issue of cultural sensitivity in forensic treatment and assessment contexts. https://researchprofiles.canberra.edu.au/en/persons/douglas-boer
