UnCover Event: The Other Colours Of The Rainbow

The ACT has led the nation in the fight for marriage equality introducing the (repealed) Marriage Equality Same Sex Act in 2013, and registering the highest percentage of ‘yes’ votes in the 2017 postal survey (74%).

The Office for LGBTQI+ Affairs sits under the ACT Chief Minster’s portfolio, we have a dedicated rainbow bus, and our national monuments light up in bright rainbow colours each night. It can be argued that the ACT is the most progressive state or territory in Australia for gay and lesbian rights. But what about the oft-unheard stories from the other colours of the rainbow—bisexual, transgender, gender diverse, intersex and queer people?

Additional Information

Join host writer and TV personality Benjamin Law (The Family Law, Gaysia: Adventures in the Queer East, Moral Panic 101, Growing Up Queer in Australia) with a panel of University of Canberra experts, advocates and people from all the colours of the rainbow to discuss their own experiences, research and the support or issues the community faces in today’s Canberra.

Grab a drink, some food and become part of the conversation. You can also engage with the conversation online through our social media channels.

The UnCover Events series occurs at various locations throughout Canberra, tackling a range of subjects and issues dear to the hearts of Canberrans. UnCover is the University of Canberra’s new online platform for sharing our stories with our community, the nation and the world to illustrate the real-world effect of our contributions. www.canberra.edu.au/uncover.
