Indigenous Literacy Day & The Great Book Swap 2026

Join us in the library (Bldg 8) from 12 noon on Wednesday September 2nd for Indigenous Literacy Day - A massive celebration of First Nations culture, stories and language in support of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

We will hold a special reading of this year's selected picture book in the Yarning Circle - My Walk Through the Seasons on Ngaanyatjarra Country followed by art and craft activities in Ngaladjima Garden. Meanwhile, the livestream events at Sydney Opera House will play on the library's Digital Wall.

Then, back-back-back again by increasingly popular demand - The Great Book Swap

We listened, we heard, we acted - this year, the sale runs over two days!

Wednesday September 2nd and Thursday September 3rd between 10:30 am and 3:00pm.

Additional Information

Bring your little ones to UC Library for a magical afternoon of Language and storytelling, focusing on literature written and illustrated by the children of Ngaanyatjarra Lands School, Warakurna, W.A. Weather permitting, we will meet in UC's Yarning Circle in the Ngaladjima Garden to read our story, followed by themed art and craft activities.

Then, pop into the library, visit the Great Book Swap and pick up some new reading for a few dollars! All money raised will be forwarded to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, to purchase resources for children in remote communities.

For over 10 years, UC Library has been holding an annual Great Book Swap on Indigenous Literacy Day, to support the work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). Last year, UC Library raised well over $750!

Library staff are already accepting good quality book donations to contribute to the sale, so clear out those bookshelves and leave your donations on The Great Book Swap trolley on level B of the library. Then, visit on September 2nd and 3rd to fill those empty shelf spaces!!
