On Forgetting

‘It is possible to live almost without remembering and live happy, as evidenced by the animal, but it is still impossible to live without forgetting.’

– Nietzsche, Untimely Meditations

We pay a great deal of attention to memory and to the acts of memorialising, but neglect to pay attention to the acts and art of forgetting. In this exhibition, members of the Faculty of Arts and Design of the University of Canberra and affiliate artists present works that attend to what is rarely attended to: what it means to forget; what we forget; how to forget. The exhibition reflects the diversity of the faculty and comprises digital, textile and print works by artists such as Katie Hayne, Caren Florance, Jen Webb and Dianne Firth.
