Navisens CEO Dr Ashod will discuss his journey from his PhD research in robotics to founding a venture-backed tech company in Silicon Valley. He’ll cover the reasons for moving from Australia to Silicon Valley and the challenges of starting a company from scratch, transitioning technology from the research lab to the real world, raising venture funding, and finding initial customers. ABOUT ASHOD: Dr Ashod Donikian is the founder and CEO of Navisens. Ashod received his B. Eng and PhD degrees from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in 2003 and 2010, respectively. Ashod has worked on several projects specializing in sensors, autonomous vehicles, and UAVs/drones. In 2007, as a researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, Ashod worked on the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge, a highly regarded robotics challenge sponsored by the US government, spurring on research in autonomous vehicles. Ashod has spent several years working as a research engineer on various robotics projects at UTS, and as an academic teaching within the UTS Faculty of Engineering. Ashod was awarded the 2020 UTS Alumni Award for Excellence Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology.
