The stories of a river are the stories of its people – register now for the book launch of Lachlan Kalari Bila – Sweet Water to the Sea, to celebrate the stories of the Aboriginal people who have a lasting connection with the Lachlan River.
This First Nations-led project was supported by UC’s Centre for Applied Water Science (CAWS) in partnership with lead author Isabel Goolagong, a proud Wiradjuri woman who travelled the length of the river to sit with family, community and Traditional Owners as they generously shared their stories and deep connection to Country.
Isabel will be joined for an evening of storytelling, music and conversation by Dr Siwan Lovett, founder and CEO of the Australian River Restoration Centre, as well as Yitha Yitha artist Sissy Pettit, Wiradjuri singer song-writer Johnny Huckle and other contributors to the book.
A vault of personal stories and lived experience, historical records, archival and contemporary photographs, and artworks, Lachlan Kalari Bila – Sweet Water to the Sea tells a story of enduring connection to Country, the deep cultural and ecological insight in First Nations knowledge – and how it can guide Cultural informed and appropriate management of land and water.
Entry to this event is free but bookings are essential.
