This unit introduces students to theories of cultural leadership and innovation in the cultural and creative industries. Students will critically analyse key concepts including leadership as ethical action and change making, gender and women in leadership roles, decolonisation and Indigenous perspectives, culturally diverse audiences, digital cultural communication and cultural diplomacy. Students will be introduced to a range of methods to analyse complex, real world case studies and scenarios, in order to challenge received cultural perspectives and develop innovative solutions.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of key theories of cultural leadership and innovation;
2. Apply a range of methods and approaches to solving complex creative and cultural leadership problems and issues;
3. Demonstrate a high degree of cultural competency in developing creative solutions to complex cultural issues and scenarios in collaboration with peers; and
4. Reflect on the role of cultural leadership in the creative and cultural industries and at different stages of professional development.

This is a self paced unit, combining with weekly online participation and intensive in-person requirments.

This unit involves online meetings in real time using the Virtual Room in your UCLearn teaching site. The Virtual Room allows you to communicate in real time with your lecturer and other students. To participate verbally, rather than just typing, you will need a microphone. For best audio quality we recommend a microphone and speaker headset.
