Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Describe and discuss the principles of static equilibrium and elastic response;
2. Apply those principles to the construction and design of simple structural elements;
3. Identify general arrangements and relate to detailed drawings of structural elements in accordance with current standards; and
4. Apply written communication skills in a professional and academic context.

Exam three permitted materials will be advised on canvas, with scheduling information.
Special assessment requirements
In order to pass this unit, students have to obtain at least 50% of the available marks and make a genuine attempt to complete all assessments.

Academic integrity
Students have a responsibility to uphold University standards on ethical scholarship. Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Inclusion and engagement
Students who need assistance in undertaking the unit because of disability or other circumstances should inform their Unit Convener as soon as possible so the necessary arrangements can be made. Or please contact studentsupport.services@tafe.qld.edu.au
Participation requirements
Students are expected to attend and actively participate in all lectures and tutorials. If a student misses lectures or tutorials, regardless of reason, it may negatively impact upon their final grade, due to them having missed important educational information and material. Announcements that are made at lectures, and via class email are deed to be made to the whole group.
