Participation requirements
Some 100 placement hours are to be undertaken by the student. The timing of these hours needs to be negotiated between the student and the host employer and can be undertaken in a block or part time – or a combination of both.
The conditions of the host organisation must be accepted by the student before commencing the Internship and a Learning Agreement must be signed before the internship starts. This is essential to ensure a valuable internship.
A letter of insurance confirmation can also be forwarded to the employer by UC, if the employer requests it.
It is strongly recommended that students attend the initial seminar.
Required IT skills
This unit requires familiarity with Canvas and with blog or website platforms to enable the creation of the ePortfolio for assessment 2. Supporting resources will be placed on the Canvas site for the development of these skills for this assessment.
Work placement, internships or practicums
This unit involves workplace internships and therefore, additional student responsibilities are required in addition to those described in this section. Work-place learning requires strict adherence to professional practice principles and ethics. Client confidentiality must always be maintained, including for assessment items such as reports or essays. The professional nature of this unit also requires 100% participation at all learning activities (seminars, online discussion and presentations) for the successful completion of this unit (also see section 6c). If attendance requirements cannot be satisfied (e.g. timetable clash), it is recommended that you meet with your Course Convener to schedule this unit for a future semester.
