Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test in Canberra.
The IELTS Test fee is $340.
No. Your original and valid passport is the only acceptable form of identification. You must bring to the test the same valid passport you used when you applied.
If your passport has expired or been replaced with a new one, you must contact the IELTS office before test day at firstname.lastname@example.org
Your IELTS test score is valid for two years from the date of your test.
Candidates are only permitted to have one copy of their Test Report Form. Please take care of it, as you cannot get another copy.
If a university or institution requires a copy of your IELTS test result, we can send it directly to them on your behalf.
There are two test modules: Academic or General. It is your responsibility to ensure you have selected the correct test module. If you are unsure, you must check with the organisation that has asked you to take the test.
You may re-apply for the same test date, but you must email us to tell us that you have already paid. If you require a refund, please contact us at email@example.com.
Candidates may only bring their passport. Candidates are allowed to bring a clear bottle of water into the examination room.
All electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, smartwatches, fitness monitors or laptops are also not allowed in the test rooms.
Do not bring anything that you do not need to the test. All candidates will be asked to check their personal belongings before registering for the test.
Yes and No. It depends on your Speaking Test appointment. Candidates must be available to do their Speaking Test interview on the day before the test or in the afternoon after the main test. On rare occasions, you may receive a test appointment on a Thursday.
You should not make other commitments on either test day. We will send out an email approximately a week before the main test with your assigned Speaking Test time. Your time and date for the Speaking Test typically cannot be changed.
Your Speaking Test may be scheduled for the day before the main test, or on Saturday afternoon after the main test. Occasionally, we have Speaking tests on Thursday afternoon.
You will receive an email a few days before the main test with your assigned Speaking Test time. We will send this out as soon as the test closes. It is your responsibility to check your email to see when your Speaking Test appointment is.
If you live outside of the ACT, we will make every effort to arrange your Speaking test time on Saturday afternoon after the main test.
Results will be posted to the address listed on your online application on the 13th day after the test. Results will not be given out over the telephone or email or by fax.
You must contact us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org within 5 days of the test to tell us that you would like to collect your results in person. In your email, give us your name, test date and your test day Candidate Number.
Results can be collected from the IELTS Office between 12:00pm - 4:00pm on the 13th day after the test. You must bring a form of ID with you in order to collect your results.
You may apply for an Enquiry on Results (EOR) within six weeks of the date you sat the test. The EOR application fee is $176 and the processing time can be up to six - eight weeks. Candidates are eligible for a full refund if the band score increases.
You may take the IELTS test as many times as you like.
No. If you wish to re-sit the IELTS test, you must take all four components: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Candidates must sit all four components to receive a test result.
The candidate will lose their full test fee. However, if a refund form is completed and a medical certificate is provided within five business days of the test date, then the full fee minus an administrative deduction of $80 is refunded.

Candidates have the option of applying for five additional copies of their test result free of charge at the time of making their test application. The additional Test Report Forms will not be sent to the candidates themselves, but to any academic institutions, government agencies, professional bodies or employers that require it.
After the test, candidates can apply to the centre which administered their test for additional copies of their Test Report Form, within two years of sitting the test. An administration charge of $30 per copy will be charged for this service.

Candidates with special needs should inform us before applying for a test date. Depending on the type of special needs, the candidate may be required to present a specialist's certificate three months before applying for a test date so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
You may cancel or transfer your test if you do so at least 5 weeks before the test date. Cancelling or transferring your test date will incur an administrative fee of $80. Please note test dates cannot be transferred between test centres, or between two people.

No, we do not have waiting lists for the test.
Please read the information provided on the IELTS Essentials web site or Guidance on application for UK visa as Tier 4 student to figure out before you apply if taking the IELTS test at our centre will be okay for your purposes. Otherwise, you may need to travel to a UKVI test centre to take the test.
