BACHELOR OF MEDICAL SCIENCE, 2011

Seeking a diverse and stimulating career, 2011 UC graduate Nurul Norzahari has been pursuing her professional dreams in multiple places. After earning her Bachelor of Medical Science from UC, Nurul continued her educational journey by earning her Postgraduate Diploma in Infection and Immunity from the University of Sydney in 2013.

"UC provided me with a strong background in Medical Science, with subjects such as chemistry, biology, microbiology, and toxicology," Nurul says. "This allowed me to further my studies at the University of Sydney."

With two highly specialised degrees and fluent in English, French, and Malay, Nurul set out on her journey for professional enlightenment. Nurul's first job after graduating was as a medical assistant at the prestigious John James Medical Centre, where she got to apply her extensive medical knowledge to assist patients and health care workers. In 2014, Nurul was the lead event coordinator for the 14th Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference. Using her impeccable human resources skills and medical background, Nurul sponsored forums on disaster relief, nuclear and chemical weapons, and cyber security.

Nurul has never been afraid of sacrificing her time for the betterment of others and she has been an active volunteer in dozens of Malaysian and Australian charitable efforts since 2008. Her most notable volunteer work includes:

  • 4 years of serving at the Pertiwi Soup Kitchen
  • Hosting 'Australia's Biggest Morning Tea' fundraiser in 2012
  • Serving as a volunteer at the free Pure Life Society medical camp in 2014

While still a student, Nurul gave back to the UC community in abundance - first as a librarian and later as a tutor to first year Students at the Science Resource Centre. Nurul was also a UNESCO Peace Ambassador, sponsoring peacekeeping efforts with Australia and Malaysia representatives.

With so much perseverance and world experience, Nurul has simple words for those just starting: "Keep pursuing your dreams, even if it seems like it's taking forever!"
