A communications expert with a career on the rise

Bachelor of Sports Media, 2008

Sports journalist, Public Relations guru, and now a highly respected Communications Officer, Greg Hutt represents the pinnacle of career progression.

Earning his Bachelor of Sports Media in 2008, Greg was eventually hired on as a Sports Journalist with the South Coast Register, helping him gain first-hand experience in the world of communications and journalism. Later, Greg became the Public Relations Communication Officer with Agsafe, a Canberra-based environmental company.

"The calibre of UC's teaching staff was fantastic in getting me prepared for the journalism industry," Greg says. "I feel that UC helped to further enhance my overall communication skills and vastly improved my research capabilities."

Today, Greg is a Communications Officer with the Department of Education and Training, a job that allows him to combine his love of writing and communications with the betterment of Australia's students and youth. In addition to handling public relations and creating website content, Greg helps lead national youth programs that teach communication.

Greg's steady rise up the career ladder isn't always easy, and his first year after graduation was an awakening to what the job market was really like. For new grads, he advises "Be patient after you graduate, because no matter what you studied, it's not always easy finding the right job."
