Dr. Brandon Gien is the CEO of Good Design Australia, an international design promotion organisation that conducts Australia's Good Design Awards program, one of the oldest and most respected design awards in the world with its origins dating back to 1958. He is also the President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), the first Australian to hold this position since the organisation was established in 1957. ICSID is the world organisation for Industrial Design. It is a non-profit organisation that protects and promotes the interests Industrial Design and has members in over 50 countries, representing the interests of some 400,000 designers worldwide.

Prior to founding Good Design Australia, Dr. Gien was General Manager of Design Strategy and Head of Corporate Services at Standards Australia, recognised by the Government as Australia's peak standards body.

Through his work on the ICSID Executive Board, he co-founded the World Design Impact Prize, a prize that honours Industrial Design driven projects that make a positive impact on our social, economic, cultural and environmental quality of life.

He studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Newcastle where he later graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design. He holds a PhD in Environmental Design from the University of Canberra's School of Art and Design. His Doctorate focused on design evaluation methodologies used by design promotion organisations around the world.

Dr. Gien was made a Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) in 2011 for his contribution to the design profession in Australia. He is a professional member of the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He sits on the Advisory Board of the Design Research Institute of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) where he chairs the annual Design Challenge program.

He is a Board Member of Shanghai City Government's International Creative City Advisory Board. He sits on the International Advisory Board of Srishti's Institute of Art Design and Technology in India and has participated as a jury member for the Singapore President's Design Awards, the Korean Government's Good Design Award, China's Red Star Design Awards, the Taiwan Golden Pin Design Awards, Rado Design Prize Africa and more recently, the World Design Capital Selection Committee.

Dr. Gien has been a keynote speaker at numerous national and international design conferences including Beijing Design Week (Beijing, China), Singapore President's Design Forum (Singapore), International Design Policy Conference (Cape Town, South Africa), ICSID Congress (San Francisco, USA), Global Leaders Forum (Seoul, South Korea). Dr. Gien was made a Design Ambassador to Japan, an international design advocacy role organised by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) and was selected to be a part of an Australian Design Delegation to Beijing to represent Australia at the annual Beijing International Design Week.
