April Lear
Talented IT graduate aspiring towards global leadership

Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours), 2014

April Lear graduated from UC in 2014 with a Bachelor of Information Technology with Honours in Information Sciences. Before graduating April was offered a role with Dynatrace, a global leader in Application Performance Management, where she has undertaken training for 5 months in the USA.

April studied and joined the university as a Bachelor of Business Informatics student before changing to an IT degree. "At first I was intimidated by going into a technical IT course so I stayed close to business, but after the first semester I found that I really loved the technical aspect and so changed to the Bachelor of IT thinking: why can't I do both?"

Her role now allows her to do just that, using her technical knowledge of systems as well as business and analytic skills; she assists companies in identifying areas for optimisation as well as troubleshooting performance problems in large IT systems. April says that doing a degree that was focused on the whole of IT rather than a subset really helped prepare her for her future.

When thinking back on her time at UC April's advice to students is - "Take advantage of what the university has to offer such as access to labs, like-minded individuals and lecturers who have years of experience in technology. Take part in extracurricular projects like the UAV club and have conversations about what you're passionate about with someone just as passionate."
