There has, arguably, never in human history been a more urgent need to champion empathy, the quality of mind and spirit which creates inclusiveness and diversity. Difference and separateness have long been rallying cries to conflict.
In the arts and social sciences as well as in clinical research, exciting advances are being made which reveal the creative, social and neuropsychological links between empathy and human connectedness, wellbeing and recovery from trauma.
The first Empathy and Creativity Symposium in Australia is bringing together cross-disciplinary research and expanding on an international dialogue, which started in the Empathy & Writing group at Bath Spa University in the UK, about the great need for empathy and inclusiveness for the survival of our species and the natural world.
Speakers will include:
Dr Saskia Beudell (UC)
Dr Kylie Fitzpatrick (Bath Spa, UK)
Professor Ross Gibson (UC)
Professor Donna Lee Brien (CQU)
Professor Desmond Manderson (ANU)
Dr Julia Prendergast (Swinburne)
A/Professor Jordan Williams (UC)
Convenors: Kylie Fitzpatrick and Jen Webb
