Orientation for research students

HDR Orientation: Semester 1, 2020:10 February to 11 February

Presented by Graduate Research and Researcher Development team, the HDR Orientation two-day program will set you up with the all the relevant information you will need to succeed in your candidature.

These fun-filled days will also include relevant workshops to help get your planning underway and ensure you make positive progress towards your first milestone.

The orientation program will conclude with a celebratory welcome reception.

Monday 10 February – Orientation Day

9:15 Arrival (Tea and Coffee)

9:30 Welcome to Country and welcome from the Dean, Graduate Research

9:45 Introduction from Graduate Research - Milestones and candidature management

10:30 An introduction to our Researcher Development program (UC ReD)

11:00 Morning tea

11:20am Ethics and Integrity

12:00pm Library introduction

1:00pm Lunch break

1:45pm Making a positive and systematic start to your first milestone - with Dr  Ben Ellway

(including afternoon tea break)

4:00 End of day 1

Tuesday 11 February – Orientation Day 2

9:00am Arrival (Tea and Coffee)

10:00 Managing your research project

10:30am morning tea break

11:00am Establishing productive writing habits - Shut Up & Write!

12:00pm eResearch and data management

12:30pm Lunch break

1:15pm Getting your relationship with your supervisor off to a good start – with Dr Margaret Kiley

3:30pm Graduate Research Q&A

4:00pm HDR Orientation Welcome Reception

4:30pm Speeches

6:00pm Welcome Reception concludes
