Sustainability

Medical & Counselling have tried to identify the best ways to make our practice more environmentally friendly. In 2020, the UC Medical & Counselling Centre has decided to undertake a sustainability project to improve the health & quality of life of our community. The Green Impact for Health project has been developed in the UK for General Practice by the National Union of Students, GPs, trainees, and medical students. It’s supported by University of Bristol, NHS Health Education South West and the Severn Faculty of the RCGP. The project is web-based and is designed to improve the environmental performance of general practice while saving money and ensuring that the way we provide our services offers the greatest benefit to society.

Muse Headsets

Muse is available at UC Medical and Counselling Centre. Ask at reception for a Muse kit and relax in one of our noise reducing couches.

Muse is the latest generation of Medication technique using technology via a headband. It is the fruit of the combination of mindfulness, meditation and biofeedback technology. A sophisticated headband captures complex brain electric signals, while you’re practicing meditation from your mobile phone. The headband transmits data to a mobile application (via Bluetooth) that uses complex algorithms to analyse your brain signals and send you real time feedback about your meditation practice.

But how does it work?

- Simply select a landscape as a meditation audio track such as rain forest, beach, desert, or even the city!
- Select the meditation duration, from as short as 3 minutes to an hour!
- Put your headset on and start meditating.
- If your mind is calm, the Muse headband will pick that up and the weather in the audio track will be calm.
- If your mind wanders or if you start moving, the Muse headband will pick that up too!
-The weather on the audio track you are listening to, will intensify to prompt you to relax and clear your mind.

It is that simple!
