The Artist and Work of  Art

Although little is known about this artist (not to be confused with the American Stephen Spencer), he was active in the Canberra area in the early 1970s. The work of art, Dancing Warriors, is an  artists proof print and one of the earliest prints in the University's art collection.  The subject and image chooses something that would seem ethnographic to the Australian and Pacific region.  Although abstract  it doesn't take too much stretch of an imagination to envisage a tribal dance.  The work of art was acquired by the University of Canberra around 1971.
